Champions
Inspired by the Champions League: skill tiers, single league and knockout finals!
📖 What is it
The Champions format is inspired by the football Champions League. Teams are divided into 4 skill tiers and each team plays exactly 4 matches (one against each tier, including their own). This guarantees balanced matches for everyone. At the end, the best teams qualify for the knockout bracket.
⚙️ How it works
A two-phase format that rewards merit:
- Teams are divided into 4 skill tiers (automatically or manually)
- Each team plays 4 matches: one against a team from each tier
- All teams are ranked in a single overall standing
- The top teams qualify for the knockout bracket
- Quarter-finals → Semi-finals → Final to crown the winner
📊 The 4 tiers
Teams are divided into tiers to ensure a balanced schedule:
- Tier 1 (Top): the strongest teams
- Tier 2: good level teams
- Tier 3: mid-level teams
- Tier 4 (Base): less experienced teams
🔄 Home and away option
You can enable home and away mode: each team will play 8 matches instead of 4 (two against each tier). Ideal for tournaments spread over multiple days.
✨ Features
- Automatic tier assignment by level or manual drag & drop
- Single standings with point system (3 win, 0 loss)
- Tiebreaker by game difference, games won, head-to-head
- Configurable date and time for each match (ideal for multi-day tournaments)
- Final stage with knockout bracket and standard seeding
💡 Tips
To get the most out of the Champions format, make sure the tiers reflect the actual level of the teams. The system can suggest tiers automatically based on player levels, but you can always adjust them manually by dragging teams between tiers.
